Annual "Paint the Town BLUE" Fundraising Gala

The Doris Cromartie "Paint the Town Blue" Fundraising Gala is held every year in August and the funds raised go towards helping elect Mecklenburg County Democratic candidates. This year, the event was held on Thursday, August 10, at Heist Brewery and Barrel Arts, 1030 Woodward Avenue in Charlotte and a great time was had by all!

This year, the "Doris Cromartie Award" was presented to State Senator Joyce Waddell (District 40), in appreciation of her many years of service to our state and her longstanding support of the Democratic Women of Mecklenburg County.

Doris Cromartie Award

Charlottean Doris Cromartie was a Democratic woman who worked tirelessly during the 1950s and 60s on behalf of her party and Democratic women. Her efforts coupled with her advocacy for the rights of women and children led to a career focused on instructing corporations in civil rights law, equal employment, and child nutrition.

Serving as the first ever President of the Democratic Women of North Carolina, her dream was to organize a Democratic Women's organization in each of North Carolina's 100 counties.

This iconic champion of Democratic ideals serves as a shining inspiration to the Democratic Women of Mecklenburg County, and it is for this reason that we give our distinguished award her name.
